Modelling
Introduction
Modelling refers to the process of creating a simplified representation or a conceptual structure of a system, or business process. It involves capturing the essential characteristics, behaviors, relationships, and properties of the process being modelled in order to gain a deeper understanding, facilitate analysis, and support decision-making.
Data Modeling: Data modeling is used to represent the structure, relationships, and constraints of data within a system or database. It involves creating entity-relationship or data flow to define entities, attributes, and their relationships, ensuring data integrity and supporting efficient data management.
Process Modeling: Process modeling focuses on representing the flow of activities, tasks, or operations within a system or business process. It helps to understand the sequence of events, dependencies, and interactions between different components.
In simpler sense, Its the process of configuring & analyzing the data objects and their relationship to the other objects. It is used to analyze the data requirements that are required for the business processes. The data models are created for the data to be stored in a database.
Models form the foundation for storing, processing ,updating and visualizing data. They can be compared with tables in excel with columns identified as fields /metrics
Identifying Models : Modelling in JustPerform takes modular approach in creating multiple models to address a business process. The models are created considering business outcome, data structure, data security and business rules required. Different models can be connected to support integrated analysis. JustPerform follows ROLAP modelling approach to leverage on best of relational and multi-dimensional capabilities.
Identifying Fields and Metrics: While the Models include Key components referred to as Fields or Metrics, additional attributes are required for these fields to achieve business outcomes. These attributes can provide additional information about members (Master data) maintained in fields or can be created for data processing, data input, security or reporting requirements.
JustPerform takes a unique approach to modelling by adapting ROLAP instead of MOLAP there by allowing users to naturally convert their spreadsheet based models into JustPerform models. This provides flexibility in support models that go beyond conventional multi-field analysis.
